Andrey Lopez

My name is Andrey , I was raised in Cuba for the first nine years of my life with my mother, father, younger brother and sister before my family moved to Miami Florida.  I was inspired by my father at a very young age to free dive, spearfish and rod & reel.  I became a certified scuba diver in Miami at the age of 16. When I moved to Massachusetts in 1990 I continued spearfishing in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island waters.  In 2000 I joined the Mass Free Divers Club to become more involved in the local competition and also establish new relationships with other divers who shared the same passion for the sport.  I have been an active Board member since 2009 and very involved with promoting this club since then.  In the summer of 2013 Mass Free Divers was the host of the U.S. Nationals Spearfishing Championships where over several state clubs participated.  It was not only challenging but it was fun, exciting and proven successful to be the Tournament Director for this big event.  We were honored to be the hosts of such a prestigious event.
I have been competing in different North Atlantic Championship Tournaments Series and other fun Tournaments series for many years and have placed well throughout.  I have also competed in three U.S. National  Spearfishing  Championships. A large part of what makes my dives successful and safe is my Ocean Kayak Prowler 15 which I have had for 8 years – I Love this kayak!
Some of my other passions and interests are mountain biking and playing my Fender Stratocaster guitars. Back in the day, I played in a couple of bands which I really enjoyed and now miss, but these days I play for personal enjoyment and with my son Alex. I enjoy cooking authentic Cuban dishes with my daughter Andreya, working out at the gym and dancing.  Music is a big part of my life, but other than my two children, diving by far is my greatest passion.
 I am very excited to be part of the Adventure on the Water Team and look forward to meeting new fishermen.
