Gulf to Gulf Odyssey

Hello, we are Brad Tallent and Austin Graham: two adventurous kayakers taking the trip of a lifetime over 5,000 miles from the St. Lawrence Gulf to the Gulf of Mexico. Our journey so far has been filled with unforgettable memories and unforgettable people that we can’t thank enough. It has truly been an once-in-a-lifetime experience and one worth the months of planning. You can read of our adventures right here on Adventure on the Water or at our blog,

About Brad: Growing up in rural Tennessee has enhanced my love for outdoor adventures. I have tried to create opportunities in my life that allow me to explore the wilderness and all its glory, in particular this “Gulf to Gulf” kayak trip. Based on my experience in numerous outdoor activities, I know I can handle the level of intensity this trip requires.

My personal objective for the trip is to kayak from the St. Lawrence Gulf waterway, through all five of the Great Lakes, through the infamous St. Croix River for approximately 170 miles where we will be fishing for wall eye small mouth bass and trout, finally down the notorious Great Mississippi River to conclude our trip in the Gulf of Mexico.

About Austin: As a kid I spent most of my time in the outdoors growing up. It all started at the local hiking trails and the countryside that I grew upon. I was and still am a kid that loves to face all the elements and get dirty. I was raised in a small town with only three lights and the biggest news in years is that a bridge has been built across the Mississippi River in 2011. It’s the second longest cable-stayed span bridge in the Western Hemisphere.  Being raised next to the Mississippi River and being connected to it, I just had to seek out this type adventure next because I as a kid I would always wonder ‘Where does all that water come from?’. My greatest achievement in my outdoor life is completing a Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2012. I know what it takes to put mind, body and soul into one single momentum for months at a time and only one thing in mind: Keep moving forward.

My peronsal objective for this trip is to kayak from Gulf to Gulf, a 5,000+mile journey. The planned route is to start in Nova Scotia, then through the Gulf of St. Lawrence. We will travel up the St. Lawrence River to the great lakes, and on Lake Superior go to The St. Croix River, merge onto the Mississippi River then travel through my hometown, then onto the Gulf of Mexico.

Looksha Series

The Looksha series is a family of outstanding sea touring kayaks with excellent tracking, performance, glide, and overall handling characteristics. The longer models are popular with multi-day sea kayakers, pro expedition kayakers, outdoor programs, and tour companies, while the shorter models (12-14) provide touring kayak characteristics with increased stability. The latter are popular for day tours and shorter overnights. Each Looksha is shaped and meticulously constructed with all-day comfort and enough room for all the gear a trip calls for. These models are long-time favorites in the San Juan Islands, Inside Passage, Coastal Maine and Nova Scotia where the ability to carry lots of gear, handle rough water and cover tons of miles effectively are highly valued.
