Miles Burghoff

Miles Burghoff, who is known by his nickname "Sonar," is a tournament bass angler, wildlife artist, television fishing show host and most recently- a kayak enthusiast.

With beginnings in the Florida Keys, it is no surprise Sonar developed an overwhelming affinity for the water early on.  Though the Keys provided him with the foundation for his passion of fishing in general, he soon discovered his true calling in fishing, in Connecticut, where his family's summer lake house captivated him to all new levels.  On that small New England lake, Sonar discovered his true love- bass fishing, and the rest is history.

Since those humble beginnings, Sonar has established himself as a standout up-and-coming tournament angler, fishing out of his "big" boat in BASS and FLW tournaments across the country.   His success in tournament fishing started with a stellar record in college fishing tours where he was able to qualify for several National Championship events and also claimed his title of Collegiate National Champion in 2011.  His other tournament accomplishments include two BFL SuperTournament wins, a berth into the All-American, and numerous top-10 finishes.

With such a strong passion for fishing, and a knack for drawing, Sonar has combined the two to create artwork that captures the beauty of the quarry he has so much reverence for.  He sells each of his creations in limited edition print series.

Outside of tournament fishing and his artistic aspirations, Sonar also found an opportunity of a lifetime in the chance to co-host a nationally televised fishing show called Sweetwater, along with his good friend Joey Nania.  Sweetwater's success has been great, but the best part for Sonar is the fact that he can share his passion for fishing with people all over the country.  Shown on NBC Sports, Sportsman Channel and Fox SUN Sports, as well as on the Waypoint TV app, Sweetwater is quickly becoming a household name for fishing fanatics everywhere.

With Old Town Canoe and Kayak's recent partnership with Sweetwater, Sonar was given the chance to experience fishing from a different point of view than he had experienced since he was a child.  Once he recieved his Predator XL, he quickly fell in love with sport of paddling.  He now enjoys fishing out of his kayak every week in small lakes, as well as the ocean, in and around his current hometown of Santa Cruz.

The Predator XL is Sonar's kayak of choice because it is a close relative to his bass boat, that is able to go anywhere, while still being able to give the angler a hands free fishing experience.
